We were coursemates throughout our university days. In fact, I don’t think we ever had a proper conversation. We knew each other by face, but that was all. We had no phone numbers, no friendship, nothing.

After university, I didn’t continue with my studies immediately, but she went on to do her master’s degree. We went our separate ways, but life brought us close together. We both registered for an examination that is mandatory for our careers. Through a mutual friend, we reconnected and even began studying together. One evening, I offered to escort her home after our studies. She arrived home safely and sent me a message thanking me for escorting her. It was a small thing, but it meant a lot to me because I have always had an eye for her. When the results of the written examination came out late one night, the three of us had passed. She was among the people who sent me a congratulatory message. Again, it took me by surprise.

We later went for the oral examination after some days. We both passed the oral interview stage, except for our other friend, which was sad in itself. Somehow, that experience brought us closer. We started talking more every day, sharing personal experiences, discussing our ambitions, and talking about life beyond our profession.

We have been talking consistently for about three months. I honestly cannot remember a single day since we became close when we haven’t talked. We are now very good friends. One thing this experience has taught me is that you don’t necessarily need ten years to understand someone. Sometimes, a few weeks of genuine communication can create a connection you never expected.

Now, here is where my problem begins. During the written examination, some lady caught my attention. I have named her Cinderella. She has physically everything I had always imagined my dream woman to be. You know that feeling when you see someone and think, “This is exactly my kind of woman”? That was how I felt. Honestly, it felt like love at first sight.

I asked for her number, and she didn’t give it to me, but I didn’t give up immediately. I searched for her, and at some point, I employed my friend, Kissiwaa, to help me find her. We only found her TikTok account, but after another long search, I got her number.

So, it happened that in the course of finding Cinderella, Kissiwaa and I built a strong connection. We were always talking, plotting, and planning. She would ask why I was going to such lengths for the Cinderella girl, and I would pour my heart out to her, talking about her beauty, her physical appearance, and everything else.

At that time, I had absolutely no romantic feelings for my friend. We were just friends, so I felt comfortable discussing everything with her. I had no reason to hide anything from her because I didn’t see her in that way.

But somewhere along the line, something unexpected happened. I started developing feelings for the very friend who was helping me with Cinderella.

The more we talked, the more I discovered how much I liked her personality. She understands me. We can discuss almost anything. She supports me when I have problems, and we have developed a connection that is difficult to explain. She is beautiful too, but what attracts me now goes beyond physical appearance.

I have reached a point where I think she should be my girlfriend.

The funny thing is that the woman I initially admired so much from a distance no longer occupies my mind the way she did. I feel like, for me to develop strong feelings and a connection with her, I need to make an effort to see her in person sometimes. But due to the kind of feelings I’ve developed for Kissiwaa, that desire to really push and build a connection with this other lady isn’t really much. I won’t lie. I still find her physically attractive, and I don’t deny that my interest in her was genuine. But I am beginning to realise that the connection I have developed with my friend is becoming more meaningful to me.

Things haven’t worked out with the Cinderella girl, though I don’t really have plans to push on that side with maximum force.

Perhaps meeting her and getting to know her better could change things. After all, I have not had the opportunity to meet her in person and see if there is something more between us.
