I was in the ward for five days. She came to my bedside often when we talked. I thought it was because I was the only patient in the ward, but when they admitted another person the next day, she still came to my bed to have a conversation with me. She’s pretty and likable, so it was easy for me to talk and engage.

On the third day, when she closed from work, she gave me her number and told me to call her if I needed anything. I didn’t call, but she came to the ward with lunch for me. “I cooked something for you,” she told me.

When I said I would eat it later, she insisted and served me. She sat next to me while I ate everything. I was grateful for the extra care.

The next day, I was discharged. She wasn’t on duty that day, but I called to tell her I was being discharged. She asked me to wait for her, and I did. I thought she was coming to work, not knowing she wasn’t on duty. She got in the taxi with me, and we left.

She wanted to know where I lived. She said she wanted our friendship to continue beyond the ward. It felt a bit unsettling for me, but I went along with it. After a week of talking every day, she proposed to me. “I’m doing all this because I find you a good person to be with. Why don’t we start something and see where it leads us?”

I haven’t said yes, but she acts like I have. I don’t mind dating her, but the way she’s behaving makes me feel like there’s something I need to discover about her before I commit.

I’m concerned with how fast everything is going. I’m also not yet over the shock of having a woman propose to me. She’s doing too much in a very short time, and it makes me wonder, “Is it only me, or is she so desperate for love that she does this for every man who comes to the hospital?”

I could be wrong and I wish I were but is this normal? Considering where we met, the speed, the proposal, and her willingness to give herself to a man who came for healing from her hands.
