Georgina was my maid of honour during my wedding. She was there at the beginning when I met Kobby, the man who eventually became my husband. When I was planning my wedding, my younger sister wanted to be my maid of honour, but Georgina became the only person I felt deserved to be by my side, looking at the troubles we’d been through and the number of times she had come in to save my relationship.

A few months after our marriage, my husband introduced his friend to Georgina, and they started dating. That was when my husband started being very close to Georgina. They had a very good relationship, but I was always the conduit for their kind of relationship. When my husband introduced Jacob to Georgina and they started dating, they had a different reason to be close.

Just like Georgina played a role in my relationship with Kobby, Kobby also started playing a huge role in the relationship between Jacob and Georgina because he introduced them. They could meet without me, and sometimes I was there with them too.

Then I got pregnant, and the pregnancy started stressing me, so I couldn’t join them in anything. I would rather sleep than follow them and stress myself and the baby I was carrying.

I could see Georgina’s calls on my husband’s phone late at night, and I would pick up the phone, hand it over to him, and say, “Georgina is calling. I hope she’s not having issues with Jacob.”

They would talk for a few minutes, and my husband would tell me what they talked about. I didn’t bother about their closeness or what they talked about because I knew their beginning and where they were going.

I gave birth four months ago. During the naming ceremony of the child, Georgina didn’t come. She said she was travelling with Jacob. That wasn’t the only time I needed her that she gave me an excuse. People have their lives to live. You can’t chain them to you because they’re your friends. I didn’t think much of it.

My husband travelled not long ago. He said it was a business trip. He left on Thursday and came back on Sunday evening. When he came, he talked about the trip and even discussed the meetings and the funny things that happened there.

On Monday, I was on social media when I saw a video from a travel page I follow on TikTok. They had gone on a new trip and were sharing the fun that happened there. While watching, something caught my attention. Someone in the background of the video looked familiar. I took a screenshot and zoomed in. It was Georgina.

I sent the screenshot to her and asked, “So you went on this trip and you didn’t tell me? Look at you in the video.”

After sending this, I went back to TikTok to continue watching videos. Another video from the trip came up. Again, I saw Georgina. So I went to the page to watch all the videos. That was when I saw my husband in one of the videos, also buried in the background, as if he was intentionally avoiding the camera.

I took a screenshot, but my heart started racing when I went through all the videos and didn’t see Jacob. So I called him. “Jacob, did you go on the trip that happened last weekend?”

He asked what trip, and when I mentioned the one Georgina went on, he told me, “Oh, naaa, I didn’t go. Maybe you don’t know, but Georgina and I broke up a couple of months ago. We can’t go on a trip together.” And then he laughed.

It all started making sense to me. I went back to the message I sent to Georgina. She had already responded. She sent emojis and said, “Eiii, so one cannot steal some time to go on a trip without being caught? I needed to clear my head.”

I asked, “Who did you go with?”

“I went with Jacob,” she answered.

“My husband went with you?”

She laughed. “If he went, you would definitely know. I would have even been the person to tell you.”

I waited until my husband came home and showed him the screenshot. I even took him to the video because the screenshot wasn’t clear. He denied it was him. I said, “I just spoke to Georgina. She said she was going with Jacob, and you later decided to join.”

He slumped back into the chair and breathed in deeply. “I thought we agreed we were keeping it a secret from you, so why did Georgina tell you? In fact, it was their plan, and they roped me into it. If I told you, you would have said I shouldn’t go. That’s why I didn’t tell you. Please forgive me.”

He was smiling, feeling comfortable about his own deceit.

Then I dropped the bomb. “I spoke to Jacob. He said he didn’t go on that trip and also said he had broken up with Georgina long ago. So which kind of Jacob did you go with?”

Right there, the baby started crying. I pretended I hadn’t heard him crying. He said, “You won’t attend to the baby because of this conspiracy theory?”

When I went in, he got up and disappeared. When he came back later, he came with a flimsy explanation that he didn’t know Georgina was going on the trip until he got there. He registered to go alone and met her on the bus. Georgina also called, trying to tell me the same story. I told her she’s a devil, and everything within me tells me I should stay away from her. “Even if that was the case and the two of you met there, you couldn’t have called to tell me?”

My husband got angry when I kept asking question after question. When he slept, I checked his phone. He had deleted their messages, but the last message between them, which he hadn’t read, was, “Does she look like she believes what you said?”

I took a screenshot, woke him up, and showed it to him. Again, he was angry that I went through his phone instead of giving me the truth. He left the bed for me and the baby and went to sleep in the hall, where he has been sleeping since this issue came up.

I have a little baby. That’s the only thing keeping me rooted here, but to tell you the truth, no matter what happens, I will never forgive my husband or Georgina. They can deny the truth, but they can’t bury it. When the dust finally settles and I’m walking away, the blame won’t be on me but on them for destroying this marriage because of their selfish interests.
