I have a serious problem, and I honestly don’t know whether it’s something normal or if there is actually something wrong with me.

I have this uncontrollable habit of laughing in situations that I find funny, even when everyone around me is panicking or something bad has happened. It is not that I enjoy seeing people suffer, because I really don’t.

I even feel sorry for them afterwards. The problem is that once my brain finds something funny, I just can’t stop myself from laughing, no matter how inappropriate the situation is

To put it simply, I have what I call a laughing sickness in very serious situations.

This has been happening for years.

About five years ago, I was involved in a minor car accident that still comes to mind whenever I think about how strange I can be.

A few seconds before the accident happened, the driver suddenly lost control of the car. Some passengers begun shouting, “Jesus! Jesus! Jesus!” at the top of their voices. Some were praying, others were screaming, and one woman even covered her face with both hands.

For some reason that I still can’t explain, I found the whole scene funny. Instead of panicking like everyone else, I burst into laughter. I wasn’t laughing because I wanted us to crash or because I wished anyone harm. I was just laughing at how everybody reacted at once, and once I started, I couldn’t stop.

Thankfully, the accident wasn’t serious. The car was damaged, but none of us suffered any major injuries.

After everyone was settled, they all turned their anger towards me.

One man asked if I was possessed. Another person said no normal human being would laugh after surviving an accident. A woman looked me straight in the face and said I was a witch who had caused the accident. The more they shouted at me, the more I found it hard to stop laughing.

I eventually got down and boarded another car because I couldn’t take the insults anymore.

Fast forward to last week, and the same thing has cost me my job. I operate a wheel loader on construction sites. That day, my boss was standing with the site manager and a few workers discussing the work while I was inside the machine clearing part of the land.

Everything was going normally until the bucket accidentally smashed into a large beehive hidden in the bush

The site manager threw away his helmet and started running. My boss took off in the opposite direction.

But as I was running, I looked back and saw grown men zigzagging across the field, shouting, waving their hands wildly, and diving behind equipment to escape the bees.

For whatever reason, my brain decided it was one of the funniest things I had ever seen.

I started laughing while I was still running.

Everything settled down and we all gathered again, my boss and the site manager had been stung so many times that their faces were badly swollen. Honestly, they looked like amateur boxers who had just gone twelve rounds with Azumah Nelson or Mike Tyson. I tried my best to hold my laughter in, but I lost the battle and burst out laughing right in front of them again

That was it. My boss fired me on the spot.

Even this morning, I woke up, remembered the whole incident, and started laughing all over again.

Abeg, is this normal, or is there something mentally wrong with me? I’m honestly more curious than worried. To be honest, I’m not even too concerned about losing the job because I know my boss needs my services and I believe he’ll eventually call me back.

What I really want to know is whether this kind of behaviour is normal or if I might have a mental problem that I should get checked out.
