We met at someone’s wedding. He called me the most beautiful person he’d seen around. I called him a liar and someone who wanted to use flattery to get to me. He asked for my number. I asked, “Is that the reason you called me beautiful? You men.”
At the reception, I was sitting with Dorcas when he called me “Beauty.” Dorcas asked, “Are you the beauty he’s referring to?” I responded, “Can you imagine?” Then we burst out laughing. He came to sit on the empty seat next to us, and Dorcas said, “You’re not lying. My friend is very beautiful.”

Then the two of them started bonding at my expense. He said he was Michael. Dorcas mentioned her name and also told him my name. They kept talking as if he was there because of Dorcas. When he asked for my number again, I gave it to him. Dorcas added her number too, and I felt jealous. “Why is he taking her number too?”
When he called, I asked if he’d called Dorcas. He said no. When he hung up, I called Dorcas to ask if he’d called. If Dorcas had said yes, it would have been the end of our fragile beginning. Dorcas said no and added that he wouldn’t call her because she wasn’t the one he liked.
A week later, we talked as though we hadn’t argued the first time. He still called me Beauty. I liked him, but I was scared he was using flattery to get to me, so I swore nothing would happen until I got to know his real intentions.
He proposed while we were kissing. We were too far gone, but I held on to the final show. I told him nothing would happen until we were married. He looked at me and chuckled. I asked, “Do you understand?” He answered, “It’s fine. Let’s see.”
I called Dorcas. “You see what I was talking about? He just wants my body and nothing else. He chuckled when I said no until marriage.”
Dorcas made the situation worse. “You want a man to wait until marriage? Are you sure you want a man at all?”
Seven months later, we still hadn’t done it. We had fought over it, broken up because of it, come back together thinking we would be fine, only for us to break up again because of it.
He used every opportunity to get me, but the only reason I stayed was because he didn’t try to force his way. When I pushed him, slapped his hand, or simply said, “Stop it,” he stopped.
I spent a night with him, and while he was trying to get it, I asked, “If you want this so much, then why don’t we marry so the two of us will be free?”
Six months after that conversation, we got married. On our honeymoon, we nearly lost our marriage. He was so angry that he disappeared while I went out to call Dorcas.
Both of us were eager to break the seal when we got to the hotel room after the wedding. Right from the shower, I threw myself on the bed and opened up. After nearly six minutes, we were done.
He looked at me with this mischievous grin and said, “Is that all? After all the playing hard to get, look at you lying there like any other woman I know. Nothing special…”
I quickly gathered myself and covered up. “What do you mean?”
He just smiled and went to the washroom like a conqueror. I was hurt and angry. It felt like he married me only because he wanted this moment. When he came back, I attacked. “What silly talk is that? What else were you expecting?”
He felt attacked and also threw words around carelessly. We were both at each other’s throats. I went out and called Dorcas. “I don’t think this will work. He married me because of sex. He’s gotten it and is laughing at me. I’m doomed.”
She calmed me down and said it might be a joke. I argued that it wasn’t. “So you mean he’ll spend all this much on you just because of that? I doubt it. Calm down.”

He also stepped out and didn’t come back. I found him at the hotel lobby but didn’t say anything to him. He came back around 2 a.m. to see me seated and thinking. In the morning, I packed to leave. He stopped me, took my bag from me, and said he wouldn’t let me leave because of a joke.
We talked extensively about it. He apologised. I apologised too. We spent four days there, but it was awkward because both of us were healing. Fourteen years later, and it’s still the only fight we’ve had that went that far. Given the chance in my next life, I’ll choose him over and over again.

The storm came early and you both weathered it. Wishing you many more years of marital bliss.
I don’t think waiting to be married before having sex with your man has anything to do with the woman been special.
STDs, unwanted pregnancies leading to single motherhood, spiritual implications etc etc. are some of the reasons.
But I’m happy it ended well. If every woman can be strict this way, it will solve a lot of problems.
@Mine 👏👏👏
Once again, you nailed it💯
So I’m happy for you. Married for 14 years. What did you do so special to make your husband happy and what is he doing to keep to keep the marriage going. Your thought and advice
