I met Zainab online in March this year. She’s currently working in Saudi Arabia, but the distance hasn’t been a problem between us. Considering that we met online, we are not missing anything about each other’s physical presence just yet. One of the reasons I easily took an interest in her was, she told me she was going to be in Ghana in the middle of the year. So if all things go as planned, she would be in the country either next month or August.

I figured I could do the long-distance thing if it meant we were going to be together soon. So last month, I made my intentions known to her. “I want us to start a relationship, so that we can get to know each other better. If you get here and we find ourselves compatible, we can start talking about marriage.” 

“Oh, that’s great! We should do it.”

That’s how we started dating, although we are yet to meet. I am not much of a social person. Maybe that’s why I am out there finding love online. It’s also why I haven’t had much experience with relationships. Zainab on the hand, has been in quite a number of relationships. She has made it clear she is more experienced that I am. Even in the bedroom. I don’t mind. If anything, I am willing to learn whatever she wants to teach me. 

Anyway, our relationship was going well, as far as I was concerned. I felt so secure with what we had because she is not one to be shy about her feelings. Everyday, she lets me know I am the one she loves and the one she wants to be with.

Then I woke up one morning to a text message from her. It read, “Wahab, I can’t do this anymore. You are too innocent for my liking. You don’t know a lot of things. So I want to go find someone who is naughty and romantic, if not, I will end up cheating on you.” 

I was completely thrown off by this. What was I supposed to do with that kind of information? Before I went to bed, I was her king, and then I woke up the next day to find out that I wasn’t freaky enough for her? I felt disheartened.  

I told her I wasn’t happy with her message. “You knew I was inexperienced when you agreed to be my girlfriend. So where is all this coming from?”

After I sent her this message, she now said, “Boy, you are so gullible. I was just messing with you. I am sorry if I caused you to worry. You should know me better to know that I play a lot.” 

Alright, I have accepted that she was joking. We are back together again. Still, I can’t help but wonder, is she someone I can trust? The breakup was a joke, sure, but was she joking when she said I was too “innocent” for her and that she might cheat on me?

Call a Friend and Ask For Thousand Cedis (A Prank)

Everything I have done so far to prove my love for her does not meet her expectations. She never hesitates to tell me, “This thing that you are doing, I have past that stage long ago. What else have you got up your sleeves?”

At first, I was so eager for the days to pass so I can finally see her and hold her in my arms. But after she pulled that prank I have been questioning everything about our relationship. If I can’t even measure up to her standard while the relationship is virtual then how will I suffice for her when we meet in person? I need to know if there is a chance things might work or if I should start finding the exit.
