Maggie was in total depression when I met her. She was constantly drenched in tears as she strived to gather the pieces of her heart after her ex left it shattered into tiny little pieces. She and Saul had been together for six years, and the next step in their relationship was marriage. As far as Maggie was concerned, it was bound to happen. The only thing standing in their way was perfect timing. Unbeknownst to her, Saul had caught the eye of a sophisticated and beautiful maiden who happened to be his manager’s daughter. One day without warning, he waltzed out of the relationship and found his feet at the heart of his new catch. He did not care that his actions tore Maggie into shreds. And the future they had planned became dirt under his feet as walked all over it.

That is why I found Maggie broken and dejected. To her, “Men are the worst of God’s creation, and I will be damned if I ever give my heart to any man again.” She wanted nothing to do with me or anyone from my gender. I had to treat her like a wounded lion when I was dealing with her. I was patient, and gentle in all our interactions. That was the only way I got her to accept my friendship. From there I had to work twice as hard to convince her to give her heart to me. I promised her, “If you give your broken heart to me, I will glue all the pieces together with my love.” But she didn’t believe me. Rather, she held out hope that her Saul would run back into her arms and they would ride off into the sunset together.

It was after almost a year without any sign of his return that Maggie started opening up to me. The numerous phone calls I was making to her no longer felt like a bother. She would answer them gladly and speak to me with excitement. The day she called me on her own, just to check up on me gave me hope that the girl of my dreams would someday say yes to my proposal. That day, I pictured how glamorous our wedding will be and the number of kids we will someday have.

One day the heavens answered my prayers and Maggie accepted to go on a date with me. It was on her birthday so I was happy that she chose to celebrate it with me. I took one look at her beautiful face and couldn’t help but profess my undying love for her again. I expected her to give me a negative response or sing the “Give me some time” anthem she had been singing from the first time I expressed my feelings for her. However, Maggie surprised me that day and accepted my proposal that very moment.

We planned to get married before the year ends. And we’ve put things into place to bring this plan to fruition. So far everything has been done to make the day a very memorable one. We are just waiting for the day to arrive so that we can make things official. My problem is, Maggie started acting strangely last month. This made me insecure about our impending nuptials so I started digging deep into her life for some answers.

Through my search, I found out through her best friend that she has been spending time with her former boyfriend, Saul. I questioned her and she told me, “I just wanted to understand why I wasn’t enough for him. I felt like if he gave me that closure, I would be able to move on with our wedding without any unresolved issues. And now I have gotten what I want so let’s go ahead with our plans.” I believed her until her best friend told me, “Maggie is pregnant. It’s about a month old and Saul is the father.” I couldn’t believe it. This same guy who shredded my fiancée’s heart is the same one she ran to for closure, and now she is carrying his child.

To confirm everything, I secretly tracked her phone and read her chat with him. They were discussing what to do with the pregnancy. Every dream I ever had about us came crashing down that very moment. I feel insulted and extremely hurt. I tried to get her to confess the truth to me but all she said was, “Everything is fine, I am just experiencing some pre-wedding jitters.” I acted as if I believe her, so she is going about thinking that I do not know anything about her infidelity and her lies.

I have decided to play along and then call off the wedding at the last hour. My close friend is also suggesting that I get back at her by dating her best friend who from all indications has an interest in me. Honestly, I do not even know how to handle this whole issue. I still love my woman but I cannot understand how wicked she has been to me. I am thinking of confronting her but I dread the outcome should she lie to my face again. I am in a dilemma. What do I do?
