There are videos circulating on the internet about a Russian man who came to Ghana to pick Ghanaian women to his hotel room and recorded them. I didn’t know about the existence of these videos until days ago, when my boyfriend sent me the link.

He picked most of the women in the video from Accra Mall. That’s where I work. I’ve been working there for the past four years, and I met my boyfriend there when he came to my place to shop. When he sent the link, he added, “You see what’s going on? Pray I don’t see you in the subsequent videos.”

I took my time to go through the videos one after the other, shocked and hurt by how easily everything happened and how beautiful women would allow themselves to be put in such an uncomfortable situation. After watching everything, what my boyfriend said clicked, and I started thinking about it.

What does he mean by saying I should pray he doesn’t find me in the videos? I called him. I asked, “What do you take me for? That I would easily fall for this?” He answered, “There are more coming. Just pray I don’t see your face in it.”

I was hurt that the man I’ve dated for over a year would think so little of me. When I kept thinking about it, it started to make sense. You see how the Russian approached the women? It’s the same way he approached me that day and took my number. I didn’t see him until weeks later. Even when he tried to chat with me, I ignored his messages until he persisted for days before I started flowing with him.

Because he found me that way, he thinks I would fall the same way for others. I sent him a message, “This looks like something you would do. I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s what you do on a daily basis.”

I wanted to hurt him, but it didn’t work the way I intended. Thinking about it still hurts me. Would it be wrong if I left the relationship? Because that’s what I’m currently thinking about.
