I found her beautiful so I decided to study her for a while and propose later. I told her I wanted to be her friend and she accepted. She gave me her number and told me she was Efe. We talked once in a while. Weeks later, I was convinced she was the one so I invited her on a date. She came with her friend and introduced her as Adelaide.

On the second date, she came with Adelaide again. I didn’t complain. We had fun and later parted. I couldn’t say what I ought to say but I knew the right time would come.

On the third date, I knew she would come with Adelaide so I invited my friend Kobby to come and serve as a distraction to Adelaide. Adelaide came so my friend Kobby took charge of her. They sat on a different table, giving us the time and space to talk. That day I proposed to Efe. She said, “I thought you wanted to be a friend?” I answered, “That was the plan but hearts change. They beat into different territories. This is where I find myself now.”

She got up and called Adelaide to follow her. They were leaving. I think Adelaide was having fun with Kobby so she asked, “So soon?” Efe responded, “I’ve seen their plan. They came here today just to share us. We are not meat.”

It was a little bit embarrassing but we watched them leave.

A year and a half later, Kobby was getting married to Adelaide. Efe was the maid of honour. I attended the wedding as a best friend. At the reception, I caught eye with Efe and she smiled. When Kobby was narrating where he met his wife, he mentioned my name and blessed me. Adelaide mentioned Efe’s name and said, “It’s funny but it was Efe who got a proposal the day I met Kobby.”

Efe looked in my direction again and we smiled at each other. We hadn’t talked for a very long time but after the wedding, she came to hug me and asked me to see what the Lord had done through us. We talked as if she wasn’t the one who walked over me that day. Days later, she texted; “Can we meet one of these days? For old time’s sake?” I said yes.

I went on the date with my girlfriend, a lady Adelaide introduced to me a few weeks before their wedding. Efe knew her. It was awkward. My girl said, “I didn’t know it was you he was coming to meet.” She turned to me and asked why I didn’t tell her. I answered, “I didn’t know you knew her.

It was an awkward thirty-something-minute affair. The two of them talked while I pressed my phone.

Later that evening Efe texted, “What did you do that for?” I responded, “I didn’t know the two of you knew each other.” But the actual answer I wanted to give her was, “I learned it from you; to always attend a date with a friend.”
