I went to the mountains to pray and held hands with a man during prayers, and he didn’t want to let go. One of the major reasons I went to the mountain was to pray about my relationship. It had been hard. Men come and they go, especially when I start to demand commitment. The last breakup nearly took me to my early grave, so I decided to find answers from God.
This man, after the prayers, took my number and even suggested becoming my prayer partner. I didn’t give it much thought, but on my second day on the mountain, he stood next to me again, and again, we held hands and prayed. After the prayers, he sat next to me in my car because he was going my way.
That very night, he called for us to pray. At dawn, he called again so we could pray. Early in the morning, before I left for work, he called. “Let’s put your ways today before God so He will be your protector and armour.”

In the evening, he said God had revealed to him that he was my partner, the one who would walk me down the aisle. I laughed. I told him I was also praying about it to see what God would reveal. Aside from everything, he was a good-looking man who dressed very well. I didn’t know what he did for a living, so I started asking questions about his work.
He told me he was a banker. According to him, he had nearly lost his job because a colleague placed juju on his seat. He said that experience pushed him closer to God and that he had never looked back. He even asked me to visit him at his branch. I asked, “Would you even have the time to attend to me?”
So I went to see him there. I called, and he came out of the bank. He said we should go for lunch, so I drove to where he directed me. He talked about his dream of being my husband again. I told him it was the reason I was also getting to know him. He said, “God has chosen for you, and you’re wasting time getting to know him? You and God, who knows best?”
When the bill came, he hit both of his pockets and screamed, “Sh!t, I’ve left my wallet at the office. See what happens when you’re in a rush to meet your missing rib.”
I paid. He promised he was going to refund me, but that refund never came.
We kept talking for weeks. I became very busy, so I stopped attending the prayers on the mountain for a while. Around that same time, Victor also said work had become busy, so he hadn’t been attending either. Since I believed he was a banker, his explanation made sense to me.
One afternoon, I drove past the bank where he claimed to work and decided to pass by and see him. I got there and called to tell him I was in front of his office. He screamed, “Oh, babe. Why didn’t you tell me? I just left the office. I’m taking care of one of our ATMs in town. Can you wait for a few hours?”
Again, I believed him. I didn’t have that time, so I left. He called in the evening, and we spent all night talking about God, prayers, and his love for me. He said if I agreed to his proposal, he would marry me within eight months. He said all the right things. My heart was swayed, but my head kept ringing the alarm bells.
I told him, “Okay, just give me one week. Only a week to decide.”
He agreed. I didn’t know exactly what I was going to use that week for, but something within me said it was a good amount of time to give myself.
During that one week, I attended the next prayer session at the mountain without informing him. Victor wasn’t there. I spoke to the guy who led the prayers the first time I was there and asked if he knew him.
He said, “Victor? Yeah, I know him. His wife is a very good friend of mine. She introduced Victor to this prayer session. She doesn’t come again because she’s heavily pregnant.”
His wife.
That was the first lie that completely unravelled everything else.
By the time I was leaving the prayer grounds that day, I had learned that Victor was married with three kids and his wife was pregnant again. I also learned that he was unemployed. In fact, his wife was the one who had introduced him to the prayers on the mountain because they were praying for him to find a job.
So the banker who was too busy with work to attend prayers didn’t actually have a job.
I called him. “Victor, why have you been lying to me? You’re a married man, and you’re following me around like this?”
He listened to me rant for several seconds and said, “Very soon, I will no longer be married. God has revealed to me that I made a mistake, so I should walk away. It’s the same God who said it’s only you who can fix the mistake I made.”
So now, according to him, he was married, but God had apparently told him to leave his pregnant wife for me.
I laughed out loud. “Are you alright? As in, does what you’re saying sound good in your ears? Or are you not thinking straight?”
He laughed too. “Things of the spirit appear foolish to the flesh, I know.”
Then I asked about the other lie.
“What do you actually do at the bank? Are you a technician or a cashier?”
That was when the story changed again.
He answered, “Currently, I’m there to get a job. A highly placed man there said I should work for some time while he works out a deal for me. So yeah, I’m not working there as in working there, but I’m working there.”
So he wasn’t a banker after all. He was only hanging around the bank because someone had supposedly promised to help him get a job there.
Is There A Man Out There Who Doesn’t Cheat?
I was blunt. “Victor, check your brain. Something is wrong with it, or you’re the one who’s not operating it very well. How can you tell me this nonsense?”
I cut the call, thinking he was going to call again, but he never did.
My anger was the fact that I nearly believed him and fell for him. I did fall, just that I was biding my time. He had lied about being single. He had lied about being a banker. He had used God to explain why he wanted to marry me, and when I discovered his wife, he used the same God to explain why he was supposedly going to leave her.
Even on the mountain of prayers, cheating men still manage to find their way there. What can’t these men do? I’m even scared when a man starts talking to me. I don’t know whether they are telling the truth or are descendants of Victor.
