Have you ever woken up on a Sunday morning and felt like the whole world is standing against you? Like you’re fighting battles no one sees, and even the family you have doesn’t seem proud of you? That was me last Sunday morning.

I got up and got ready for church, but my heart was heavy. You know that feeling where you’re physically present, but your mind is somewhere else, holding back tears and trying to stay strong? The preaching was powerful, the songs were beautiful, but instead of lifting me, some of the words just triggered emotions I’ve been trying so hard to bury. I couldn’t leave. So I sat there acting strong as if everything was fine.

When church closed, I didn’t want to go home. That place hasn’t felt welcoming in a long time. So I just walked around town aimlessly. Sometimes work keeps me so busy during the week that Sunday becomes the only day I can breathe, but this particular Sunday came with a heaviness I didn’t know what to do with.

I was strolling around when I saw my boss at his other workplace. He’s a businessman with two ventures — one I manage, and the other he handles personally. Funny enough, I had never been to his other place, until I ran into him there.

I decided to greet him, just to be polite. Little did I know that a simple “Hello” was about to change my whole day. In that moment when he looked at me, smiled, and spoke, it felt like someone had poured light into a very dark place inside me.

He said:

“I’m proud of you.”

“You’re managing everything so well.”

“I have no complaints.”

“I’ll be sad when I lose you.”

Just those words.

Sometimes that’s all it takes, someone seeing your effort, acknowledging your worth, appreciating what you bring to the table. Someone reminding you that you matter, even if the people you expect it from don’t say it.

By the time the day ended, my mood had completely changed. I walked home feeling lighter, smiling to myself. At least there is someone out there who sees me, someone who values me, someone who makes me feel useful… even loved in their own way.

And that’s what turned my Sunday into a happy one.
