I’m a male escort and this is how the journey started for me…

After my national service, my boss asked me to stick around for a while. I asked if she was going to employ me and she said yes. So I was hanging around hoping for a job that would make my life better. One morning, she came out of a meeting and asked me, “Can you drive?” I answered, “Yes I can.” She said, “Then meet me here tomorrow morning. We are going on a trip. We would be away for three days. Just so you know.”

On the first day, I slept alone in a hotel room. On the second day, she told me to join her in her room since she didn’t have the money to pay for the two of us. We shared the same bed that night and that was when she told me the kind of job she wanted me to do.

“Your position isn’t official. I’m the one employing you. I’ll pay GHC3,000 a month and we’ll be going on trips like this. If you are submissive and do what I say, you’ll have a raise as soon as possible.”

That was the beginning of my escort job.

She wasn’t the only one I was servicing. She could lend me to her friend for a trip and I would be paid before I get back. She had three friends who came for me in turns. There’s Annette. She was the one I liked to travel with. She looked younger and demanded less of me. She didn’t order me around. She asked me to treat her like I would treat a girlfriend. And she paid very well.

For two years, I continued doing this job. At some point, my madam stopped paying me because she felt I was earning enough from the other people I escort. She rented a place for me so I could be easily accessible. Life was good. I was getting money but I wasn’t happy. I felt there was no dignity in the job and I wanted to leave.

I saved a lot of money and one day told her that I couldn’t do the work again. She asked me, “Which of the ladies is taking you away from me?” I answered, “I’m not going anywhere. I just want to start a new life and look for a more dignified job. I’m a man. I will like to marry and settle down as soon as possible. I can’t do this work while a married man.”

She nodded and I left, thinking I’d been set free.

I tried travelling abroad but I was ill-informed about so many things so I spent money on things I shouldn’t have. By the time I realized, I’d wasted all my money and the trip also didn’t happen. I was broke, sad and regretful. I called my madam again and she took me back with different rules. This time, money won’t be paid directly to me. She would receive my money and give me something as and when I need it. She didn’t want me to escape again this time.

I’ve worked for another two years and I have close to GHC60,000 in savings with her. When I need something, she doesn’t give me the money. She would use my money to buy the thing for me. She’s doing everything to keep me here forever. I want to stop but she won’t give me the money. It’s either I stay and keep working for money or I leave and leave with nothing.

Considering the work I’ve been doing with her, are there any legal grounds I can stand on to get my money? I just want to leave to start something with that money but she won’t give it to me. If there are no legal grounds, then what clever way can I use to retrieve my money?

I wanted to buy land and she told me she can get it for me if only her name would appear on the document and she’ll keep the document. I asked when I can leave the job and she told me, “Someday but not now.”

I’m not happy and want to leave but how do I leave and leave with my hard-earned money?
