The comments on my story left me more confused than I’d ever been. A lot of guys said my guy was honourable and was going through a patch. I agreed with them because I knew my boyfriend and I knew what he could do. He was outspoken oftentimes. Money was an issue to him but it wasn’t to me because I wasn’t in the relationship for his money. I’m a struggling woman but I hustle to get what I need and he loved me for that.

All I wanted was for him to open up and be honest but he gave me mixed signals with his statement.

A lot of women also saw the red flag and asked me to move on. I could believe what they were saying too because they were women and might have faced situations like that before. I was confused but I knew what to do. I called him one evening to conclude the matter. The call was waiting. I called an hour later. It was still waiting. He didn’t call me again until I called in the morning.

I didn’t ask who he was talking to but he started explaining that it was a foreign call from his aunt. I asked him, “What do you really want from me now in our relationship?”

He told me he didn’t have money and couldn’t take care of me and it was making him feel less of a man. “Dear, I’m not complaining. I believe in building together with you so I want us to continue building what we started.”

He didn’t give me a definite answer. He said, ‘Let’s see how it goes.”

I spoke to his sister, spoke to his brother and spoke to his friend. His sister told me, “He’s my brother but I can’t believe men who say these things. He’s finding a way to leave so don’t push it.”

His sister’s advice aligned with the comments I read on my post so I took it. I left him alone and surprisingly he left me alone too. He would watch my status and say nothing. He wouldn’t call because I didn’t call. I went to his friend, the one he lived with and asked about him. He said, “Oh you didn’t know? He has moved into his own place ooo.”

He showed me where and I went there. When I knocked he came out. When he saw my face, he shut the door behind him. It became a tussle. He wouldn’t let me in until I pushed harder.

The room was decorated with photos of another woman. On the wall, on a desk and behind the door. I didn’t ask any questions. I opened the door and left. I thought he was going to chase me. He didn’t. I got home and cried. He knew what he was saying when he said I should let another man love me. The women here were right. He was out of love with me but in with someone new. I learnt they dated in school, broke up after school and reconnected.

I lost a fight I didn’t know I was fighting. I’m alone now, healing and dealing with my mistakes. The red light was glaring but…Hmmm
