When I met Felix, I was trying so hard to get admission into the College. This was in 2022. There was a WhatsApp group for all the applicants trying to get into the university, and that was where he met me and took a special interest in me. He texted me, and we started talking. He was already in the school, so I was very excited to talk to him because I wanted to know everything there was to know about campus life, the courses, the lecturers, and everything else. We started talking every day, and one day, we decided to officially meet and put a stamp on this new friendship we had found. Through our conversations, we found out that we lived in the same town.

We met in the evening under a tree, and again, he painted a picture of campus life for me and told me how much I would enjoy it if I eventually got in. The next day, he proposed, and I agreed to date him. It was at this point that I also started to like him. Not just because he was a university student, but because he was everything I wanted in a man. He spoke well, he knew his stuff, and he knew where he was going in life. Where I was going, I needed a man like that to complement me, so that was it. I guess I felt he was the man for me.

In December, I gained admission and started school the following year. His university also reopened, so he went back to school. For the first three weeks to a month, our communication was still good, and everything seemed fine. But about a month later, our communication became inconsistent. When I complained about it, he put the blame on lecturers, group studies, and demanding assignments.

“I am also in student politics and many more. The work is demanding, so please, relax for me. This semester, I am taking more courses than I am originally supposed to take. It is difficult. You don’t understand. Maybe if you reach my level, you’d understand.”

He was just a year ahead of me. I gave him time to fix his schedule and at least put me somewhere in between those tight schedules so we could talk as girlfriend and boyfriend. He did, and for some weeks, we were good.

The next academic year, I was now in Level 200, and we were still having communication problems. That was not the boyfriend I met in the first few months of our dating, and I was willing to do everything to get him back, my boyfriend. In the second semester of that year, I got tired and allowed the relationship to die if that was what was supposed to happen.

Once in a while, he would come around and say hi. We would talk for a week or two, and then suddenly, everything would go quiet again. I decided to forget about him and move on with my life.

He completed school last year. After his completion, he tried several times to get us to reconnect, but I didn’t give him the chance. He admitted that he had made mistakes. He said he was naive and didn’t appreciate what he had in me. Instead of making our relationship a priority, he focused too much on school and other things.

He confessed to having realised his mistakes and being willing to right the wrongs. I didn’t give him a chance. I asked him to let bygones be bygones. Even after that, he didn’t delete my number, and I didn’t delete his either. We still have each other’s contacts. We view each other’s statuses, and sometimes he comments on my status or tells me how much he has missed me, but I pretend that I don’t see them.

Now, I have also completed school. I graduated last month. I recently sent him a message appreciating him for being part of my four-year journey, from the very beginning up to a certain point. He replied and congratulated me on my achievement.

Some days ago, I posted a picture of myself, and he commented, complimenting me. I thanked him, and he followed up with a message saying that we should sit down and talk things through.

The truth is, I still sincerely love this guy. I’m scared that if I give him another chance, he might waste my time again. I’ve already moved on once, and I don’t want to find myself going through the same pain all over again.

Right now, I honestly don’t know what to do. Should I give him another chance and see if things can work this time, or should I completely let him go and move on? Please help me. What would you do if you were in my shoes? I genuinely need your advice.
