She was sitting at home, helping her mom out, when I met her. I was a National Service Person at the time. She had failed her WASSCE Maths and Science papers, so she couldn’t get into any university. I liked her, so I took it upon myself to help her grow. I personally taught her in preparation for her Nov/Dec. If we couldn’t meet, we would have our lessons over video calls while I explained to her the formula for finding Pythagoras’ theorem.
Since her admission results came, I turned into her sponsor. If she needed help with fees or anything, I sent her money without thinking twice. Why would I think twice when my girlfriend in the university said she needed money? I knew what it was like to be a broke student in the university, and I didn’t want her to face the same thing.

She mentioned one evening, “I have been able to save GHS 4,000 from the money you’ve been sending me since I started school.” It took me by surprise. She has this money, yet she keeps calling me every week for money? Even when she needs money to buy airtime, I still have to send it. It was alarming, the way she was always asking for money.
Out of the blue, I decided to put her to a test. The next time she asked for money, I gave her an excuse. “Mama has to undergo surgery and I am broke, so help yourself out.” I even went ahead to mention the exact amount, “GHS 14,000.”
What I was expecting was my girlfriend of three years to say, “Babe, take this GHS 2,000 and add it to whatever you have raised.” She rather got upset that I was starving her. You have GHS 4,000 saved, what is stopping you from touching that money?
Right on the call, I told her, “You are very heartless. I am very disappointed in you. So you are telling me that you can’t help me when you have that much saved and still want money from me after I have told you my mother is sick?”
“It is a prank. Bye,” I said and hung up.
Is There A Man Out There Who Doesn’t Cheat?
She didn’t call me until I called her three days later. She told me, “I have failed your test, and I am thinking about my actions, so I need time to reflect and clarify on it.”
I should be angry that my girlfriend, whom I have been supporting through school for three whole years, can’t help me when it comes to something like this, but she is angry at me, saying it was wrong for me to do what I did.
All in all, I love her to bits. So my question is this: Is this a red flag? Should I end the relationship? I need you guys to give me your honest views.
