I met Albert, and he made me feel like I was the only woman on earth. Obviously I am not, but that is how he made me feel. Even without words, I felt like the queen in his kingdom. He bought me a phone the moment he saw mine giving me trouble. He did things for me without my asking, and I appreciated that so much. In this life I am living, I had never experienced such care. I was so happy. Instantly, I knew I trusted him.

Then his father passed away. Albert was preparing for the funeral, so we hardly talked or even texted. I understood. I was the one putting in the effort, going the extra mile, calling and checking in. When I asked if everything was okay, he said yes. I wondered if it was because I could not attend the funeral. He said no, far from it. I had sent him proof that my sister had been admitted to the hospital the day before, and I was the only one who could care for her. I could not have left her.

When I asked, all he said was sorry. I tried so hard. I even apologized in case I had done something wrong. He said no, and that he was very sorry for the inconvenience.

We had spoken for nine months. So you should understand my emotional attachment to this man. And it hurts me so much, the silent treatment. Even now, since I stopped, everything has ended. But he still wishes other people happy birthday.

I had been single for so long. I had begun to believe it was all over for me, that the kind of connection which makes you feel seen was something I would never feel.
