I was in a meeting when I saw my junior sister’s call. I ignored it, thinking I could call when the meeting was over. The call came again and again so I texted her to tell me the reason she was calling. She said, “Bra Justice is here. He says he’s coming for the fridge. He’s removing everything from the fridge.”

I couldn’t leave the meeting to make a call but I couldn’t concentrate on what was going on. Questions had to be repeated to me before I could hear. I was distraught. Why is he removing my fridge? Is he doing that to hurt me? What has come over him?

For one and a half years, Justice was my boyfriend. I loved him and loved the way he loved me. The only thing that was bothering me was his baby mama. When he told me he had a five-year-old daughter at the initial stages of the relationship I shivered but then he assured me that nothing could come between us so I should relax.

When I started relaxing, the issues started coming up. He loved his daughter so much he would do anything for her. I liked him a lot for that. It assured me that our children would be safe in his hands. But then things started getting out of hand.

He was with me when the baby mama called that their daughter was sick so she was taking her to the hospital. It was around 9 p.m. He quickly wore his shirt and left my place to meet them at the hospital. An hour later, I called him. I wanted to know how his child was doing. He didn’t pick up my calls all night.

I was worried. “Did something happen to him?” So around 11 p.m., I called his junior brother and asked if Justice was home. He went to his room to check. He told me he wasn’t home. I texted him to let him know I was getting worried. He didn’t answer. Later the next day, he texted to say sorry and said he was going to call later to explain.

Their daughter was discharged that same night but according to him, he slept at his baby mama’s place because his daughter was crying when he wanted to leave. His explanation didn’t make any sense to me looking at how badly he spoke of his baby mama. “You slept at Gifty’s place? How is that possible?”

He answered, “For my daughter. She was very sick and I didn’t want her crying.”

I wasn’t going to let the explanation go unchecked so I went through his phone and went through his messages. That night when he slept there, from what I read, his baby mama threw herself at him and they ended up having sex. From what I read, I didn’t blame him too much but my heart was hurt. When I brought up the issue, he apologized profusely and told me the lady trapped him. It was obvious in their messages so it was easy for me to forgive him.

But this lady proved beyond every reasonable doubt that she wasn’t going to allow me to enjoy my relationship with Justice. Anytime we seem to be building something good, she would appear out of nowhere to demolish the foundation of everything we’ve built. I was constantly living in fear because of Gifty.

One dawn, around 1am my phone kept ringing. When I picked up the call, it was Gifty. I was like, “How did you get my number?” Her voice was firm and strict. “That’s not important now. If Justice slept at your place, wake him up and tell him to answer his phone. I’ve been calling him.”

Justice didn’t sleep at my place that night so I told her to stop calling my phone. I was angry but there was concern in her voice. I thought something was happening to their daughter again. She asked me, “If Justice didn’t sleep at your end then where did he sleep? I’m currently at his place but he isn’t here.”

I called Justice all night and he didn’t pick up. In the morning when he called he told me he was sleeping. I asked, “Where were you sleeping?” He answered, “Of course in my room.” I told him, “So you mean Gifty was lying when she said she was at your place and you were not there?”

He was shocked to know I was talking to Gifty but he misinterpreted it to mean the two of us were conniving to give him trouble. He cut the call on me and didn’t pick up again for three whole days. When he showed up later to give me an explanation, I told him it was over. “There’s too much drama in this relationship. I can’t handle it. I’m too young to be going through this lot.”

He begged me to forgive him when he had wasted my last forgiveness. I shook my head. I asked him to leave. He kept calling and asking for forgiveness. I told him not to call my phone again. He didn’t call for a week only for my sister to call and tell me he was in my room removing my fridge.

When I called my sister after the meeting she told me he had carried the fridge away leaving everything on the floor. He didn’t buy the fridge for me. I was going to buy a tabletop fridge. When we got there, he told me to buy a bigger one instead and because I didn’t have the money, he topped up. It doesn’t make the fridge his own so why did he come for it?

I called him. He told me he contributed the larger portion of the money and because I’d been using it for close to a year, I’d exhausted my investment in the fridge. It was his turn to use it. I begged him to return the fridge. He didn’t. He never did.

A week after coming from the fridge, he sent me a text stating all the amount he had spent on me since the beginning of our relationship. He said, “This is how much you owe me. I’m giving you one month to pay or else you’ll lose everything in your room.”

I looked at the figure and I laughed. I don’t remember where and when he spent that much on me. I blocked his line so he wouldn’t call and tell me nonsense.

I was at work when my junior sister called. Justice was in my house again trying to remove my TV. I quickly called Abatey, a guy who lives close by and told him what was happening. He quickly rushed to my place and according to my sister, it turned into war between the two. Had it not been for the women in the house, Abatey would have beaten him to a pulp.

I went to the police station to make a case and he was picked up. He was at the counter-back until a family member bailed him. He was warned to stay away from me or risk going to cells because of me.

After all that drama, one evening before going to bed, I saw a voice note from a number I didn’t know. It was him, Justice.

He was pleading for forgiveness and asking me to come back because he had settled things with his baby mama. She’s no longer going to be a problem,” he said. “My mom has gone for my daughter from her so we have nothing to bring us together again.” He concluded, “Don’t you see you’re the woman I truly love? I did all that I did because I wanted to continue being in your life.”

I pressed the block button, put my head on my pillow and snored away.
